Phil Collins全名Philip David Charles Collins，于1951年1月30日生于伦敦西部一个叫CHISWICK的小镇。少年时就读于一家戏剧学校，12岁开始学习打鼓，19岁时加入摇滚乐队Gensis（创世纪）做鼓手。当时乐队已成立了2、3年，深受好评。1974年是这支乐队的颠峰时期，他们的摇滚歌剧“百老汇的祭祀羔羊”反映十分强烈。但在次年5月，乐队主唱Peter Gabriel离开乐队，乐队面临解散的危机。这时Collins才走到了台前，担任起了主唱。1981年，柯林斯正式开始个人的发展。首张专辑名为《Pace Value(脸面的价值)》，其中单曲《In The Air Tonight(今晚夜空中)》获排行榜亚军，专辑列排行榜首,第一张专辑也成为白金唱片。1984年，菲尔·柯林斯为电影《困难重重(Against All odds)>创作主题曲，该曲在美国连获三周排行榜冠军，并获当年奥斯卡电影最佳插曲奖的提名。 1985年专辑《No Jacket Required(不需夹克)》推出后在美国连获七周冠军，单曲《One Nore Night(再绐我一个夜晚)》也蝉联两周第一名。 1989年推出的单曲《天堂里的又一天(Another Day ln Psradise)》在英美迅速夺冠，专辑《郑重其事(Be Seriously)》在英国连续十星期高居榜首。1991年，已过不惑之年的菲尔·柯林斯荣获美国音乐奖最佳摇滚艺术家和格兰美最佳单曲、最佳个人专辑奖。Phil Collins
