1998年，他们录製了自己的第二张专辑《WITHOUT YOU I'M NOTGING》，专集的第一支单曲《PURE MORNING》于1998年8月进榜并一直攀升到第4位。而这张专集在98年席捲全世界，获得了巨大成功，也把PLACEBO独特的风格推向世界。而《PURE MORNING》的音乐录影带也于1999年得到的英国音乐奖（BRIT AWARD）的提名，在颁奖典礼上，PLACEBO与DAⅥD BOWIE（大卫鲍伊）同台演绎了电影《天鹅绒金矿》的主题曲《20TH CENTURY BOY》。
《Once More With Feeling - Singles 1996-2004》囊括了Placebo从95年成立96年发行第一张single到今年初非常成功的专辑《sleeping with ghosts》里面的所有单曲,还有包括他们最新单曲《twenty years》和《I Do》。此张合集一共有19首歌曲。其中收录的4首首张专辑里面的single,一次又一次让人回到原来--最初听Placebo的时候,那种被他们绝美的嗓音和美妙的曲调包围的感觉。Placebo的华丽之音更趋深度、内省和迷离。多首作品电气化的尝试,表明乐队不断努力着创新之意;而词作方面,依然是Brian Molko一如既往的爱情宿命论。Placebo确实是90年代最有影响力和最与众不同的一个英伦乐队
