Footprints in the Sand是由基督教诗歌Footprints改编而来的一首歌。最初是Cowell想出主意要基于这首诗来写一首歌的，接着他又询问作曲和製作人团队David Kreuger和Per Magnusson是否能写些东西来完成这首歌曲。他们在Richard Page马布里的家里开了个关于歌曲创作的会议，并在第二天顺利完成了这支单曲。在一次HitQuarters的採访中，Magnusson说他们本来认为这首歌给Westlife,唱比较合适，这首歌却给了Lewis。当Cowell向Lewis提起这首歌曲的构思时，她表示这首歌“相当有趣”。为了完成这首歌，Cowell还设法联繫了一个製作团队。Lewis谈起这首歌时，形容它“很感人，歌词很振奋人心”。这首歌的主题就是“在别人需要帮助时施以援手”。为了宣传这支单曲，Lewis于2008年3月9日在Dancing on Ice现场表演了这首歌，伴随着这首歌的优美旋律，Torvill和Dean表演了一支特别的冰上舞蹈。

Evening Standard表示Footprints in the Sand是一首串烧型，福音色彩较浓重的歌曲，比较适合用作迪士尼电影的主题曲。

Iafrica的评论家形容这首歌是一支“引人注目的，美妙的Mariah Carey式”的歌曲，Lewis充分运用她广阔的音域使她的声音听起来与Carey的声音惊人般地相似。

Digital Spy的评论家说这首歌有着不可思议的结尾部分，一个甚至连Mariah Carey 也会惊叹的结尾，并且歌词会使人热泪盈眶。Channel 4表示这首歌有点像Lewis的首单A Moment Like This，又有点像Christmas。

Manchester Evening News的评论家说这首歌使Lewis成了一个真正的慈善歌手。

Footprints in the Sand的MV是在伦敦拍摄的，由着名英国导演Sophie Muller执导，整支MV摘取了很多Lewis参加Sport Relief活动去南非约翰内斯堡专访的片段，这支穿插了Lewis南非之行片段的特别的MV在2008年3月9日在BBC上亮相。
